The Malthouse farm

I love Wednesday nights. 1) the dreaded midweek ‘hump’ is over and 2) it’s officially girlie night where I spend time with my mum and sister, chatting and eating. Perfect!

This gem is all down to my mums choosing - she fancied sitting by a canal, that had meatfree options, and was far enough away we hadn’t been before but not too far. After a quick google search she found this lovely place, and although it was our first visit I’m sure it won’t be our last!

The vegan options on the menu were:

• Courgette and harissa flavoured rice skewers

• The ultimate vegan burger

• Asian noodle salad

• Chef’s summer garden bowl

• Chocolate torte with vegan ice cream

I was torn between the summer garden bowl which sounded beautifully fresh or the burger as I was ravenous (and hangry from the prolonged journey there - bloody roadworks). My belly got the better of me and chose the burger for me.

The soya patty itself was soft, yet chewy enough to be a mock meat however could have done with a bit more flavour. Encased in a poppyseed bun which was thick yet wasn’t too bready. I’ve never been a fan of BBQ sauce however the dip provided was incredibly moreish and definitely gave the taste of the burger an extra kick. The best thing for me was the melting cheese slice, probably the best vegan cheese slice I’ve had. If you’re reading this Malthouse please let me know your secret! 💚

I was so full (also tried some of my sisters Asian salad bowl which was equally lovely) that I didn’t get to try the chocolate torte, but with such a picturesque location I’d go back in a heartbeat just to try it. Until next time xo
